Tom Walker, father, group manager, lead singer, booking agent, senior roadie, group spokesmen or anything else he needs to be, says “I just do whatever is necessary to keep our ministry moving forward.”
Born in a Christian home where music was just a part of life he sang his first song in his Uncle Jack Allison’s church at age six “Now I Belong To Jesus,” and he has been singing ever since. Singing is just one area of Tom’s ministry. He is also a gifted Bible teacher and for more than thirty five years, has faithfully studied and taught God’s Word in various settings. Add to the list of ministries lay speaker, host of The Sounds of Southern Gospel radio program and former worship leader. Linda says, “My husband is just a Christian using the gifts God gave him to do the work he called him to do.” Although Tom enjoys all the areas of his ministry, singing with his family is his favorite way to communicate truth to others.
Ask anyone who knows Tom what is his favorite hobby and the answer will be hunting rabbits with his beagles. Tom says, “I love breaking and training my dogs and I love hunting the bunnies. Some of the sweetest music you will ever hear comes from beagles on a hot track.” He also loves to be in the kitchen with the finished product cooking up his favorite rabbit recipes. Ricky Carden of The Down East Boys says “Tom’s brown gravy rabbit is to die for.”
So the next time you hear this guy sing, know you are in the presents of a man who loves His God, his family, his ministry, and yes, his beagles. Hallelujah!
