As a member of the Tom Walker Family, Linda is first and foremost Mom. Everything else comes after that. She is undoubtedly a fine vocalist but singing is just a small part of her influence on this group. Her other duties include; emotional stabilizer, the soft touch when things get rough, cook, wardrobe coordinator, cheerleader, problem solving consultant, wife and only the Lord knows what else.
Linda considers it a wonderful privilege to sing with her husband and children. She has always loved music. Like her own children she grew up in a musical family. Linda says, “My mom played a little piano and mandolin, my aunts and uncles and all their friends played guitars and banjos. The music was country of course, so it is easy to see why I fell in love with Southern Gospel. When I was a child everyone would gather around the kitchen table and sing and play for hours. That’s where I learned to sing harmony by ear, an absolute necessity if you are going to sing Southern Gospel.”
Concerning her vocal part with the Tom Walker Family, her husband, Tom says, “Linda does most of the high harmony stuff, but like the rest of us she will do whatever we ask to make the blend close. When she takes a lead it is always beautiful, and done in the power and spirit of Christ Jesus.”
Singing and mothering are only two of Linda’s many talents. Add to the list flower arranging, crafts of all kinds, including ceramics and painting. She is not only a great cook she is a wonderful baker. If you would like to reference this check the stature of the Tom Walker Family. Probably the one thing that stands above all the others is sewing. Linda is an excellent seamstress. She especially loves machine quilting. Linda says, “When I am making a quilt for one of our family members or close friends a lot of love and prayer goes into every stitch; they come straight from my heart.”
Linda really enjoys meeting new people and enjoys having fun. You will almost always see that big smile on her face and hear her laughing (especially when she is with Melinda). “We need to keep a positive attitude,” she says, “God is in control and He is faithful.”
So, the next time you hear this awesome lady sing know that you are in the presence of one of God’s special gifts to this world.
